Mahatma Gandhi Ayurveda Charitable Hospital

Ayurvedo Amrutanam

Ayurveda is the nectar for life. Ayurveda is the science of life. Its aims are preservation of health of the healthy person and cure of the disease persons. Ayurveda is fast becoming universal because it does not have any side effects and therefore very beneficial in chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, bronchial asthma, skin disorders, arthritis, psychological disorders among others.

Our Dream

This dream project of the Human Service Trust is dedicated to all socio-cultural voluntary workers and Civil Society Organisations (CSO’s).

The foundation stone of the Hospital was laid by Shri Murli Manohar Joshi, Minister of Human Resources Development of India on 1st November 2001 in the presence of the Hon.Ashok Jugnauth, then Minister of Health and Shri Vijay Kumar, Indian High Commisioner.

Construction works started on 2nd November 2002 on Dhanwantri Day, This 2nd Novembr also marked the anniversary of the arrival of Indian indentured labourers. Ayurveda was introduced in Mauritius by those pioneers.

The Hospital is built ona vast plot of land, situated in the village of Calebasses afew minutes drive from Sir SeewoosagarRangoolam Botanical Garden and overlooking Port-LouisRange. The complex is situated in the midst of mango groves, litchi and vegetable gardens and forestland to be developed into a jogging track.

The complex comprises Surya Chuttur Hall, Kurjibhai Ramji Patel Guest House, Swami Krishnanand Seva Ashram, Lady Sarojini Jugnauth Women’s Home and Old Couples wings. The home caters for some 200 residents. Boarding, lodging, medical care and other amenities are provided free of charge.

We organised the first International Ayurveda Conference in Mauritius and feel proud to be instrumental in making Government pass the Ayurveda and other Traditional Medicines Act in1988.

Our aim is to build a unique health care centre for the Indian Ocean and Africa Region.
